Opening a discussion about the role of women in Catholic church, especially motivated by the desire for priesthood, required significant personal courage in the 1980s. The future associate professor of theology and a prominent figure of Czech church, Mireia Ryšková found a discussion partner in Josef Zvěřina, a pastor, theologian and former political prisoner, who had been an established authority in the unofficial church structures at the time thanks to his open-mindedness. The correspondence between these two figures is framed by other texts, including documents from the period, which describe the status of women in Czechoslovakia as well as church practice at the time, and from confessional texts of a very personal nature, they progress towards theological, spiritual and societal aspects of the question of the possibility of ordaining women.
